The term "dead pawn" means an item that was pawned for cash
but has never been redeemed, a common practice in the Southwest. Occasionally, a
very old piece of jewelry, often a family heirloom, will appear as pawn, but
most pieces are of a more recent vintage. I will try to accurately date any
piece listed under this heading, but generalized time periods are to be
expected. These pieces definitely fall under the category of "get it when you
see it" because good pawn is hard to find (and usually expensive).
